Job Description:
Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Tailoring and Embroidery Trainer to deliver a structured, hands-on two-month training program for Afghan refugee girls. The trainer will empower participants with practical tailoring and embroidery skills that will enable them to pursue self-employment or income-generating opportunities in their communities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Training Delivery:
- Conduct daily training sessions in both tailoring and embroidery.
- Teach foundational, intermediate, and selected advanced techniques.
- Ensure hands-on practice and one-on-one support for trainees.
- Maintain discipline, encourage creativity, and ensure cultural sensitivity.
The trainer will teach the following tailoring techniques:
Basic Tailoring:
- Introduction to sewing tools, safety, and machine operation.
- Fabric types and cutting techniques.
- Taking body measurements accurately.
- Hand stitching techniques (hemming, backstitch, running stitch, etc.).
- Basic seams and seam finishes.
Garment Construction:
- Drafting and cutting patterns for:
- Shalwar Kameez
- Kurta
- Pants
- Uniforms
- Simple dresses
- Baby clothes
- Sleeve and neckline variations (round, V, collar, etc.)
- Stitching and assembling garments.
- Zip fixing, piping, and lace attachment.
- Finishing techniques for professional look.
Machine Stitching Skills:
- Use of manual and electric sewing machines.
- Maintenance and troubleshooting of sewing machines.
- Straight stitch, zigzag stitch, and other machine stitch functions.
3. Embroidery Skills to Be Taught:
The trainer will teach a variety of traditional and contemporary embroidery styles:
Hand Embroidery Techniques:
- Basic stitches: Chain stitch, Running stitch, Back stitch, Satin stitch, French knot, Lazy daisy.
- Appliqué work
- Tilla Work
- Beadwork and sequin work
- Shadow work
- Cross-stitch
- Kashmiri and Phulkari styles (as culturally relevant)
Machine Embroidery (if equipment available):
- Introduction to machine embroidery techniques
- Simple floral and border designs using zigzag stitch
- Use of embroidery foot and stabilizers
4. Class Management & Reporting:
- Prepare weekly lesson plans and daily schedules.
- Maintain participant attendance and monitor individual progress.
- Conduct practical assessments and provide constructive feedback.
- Submit progress and completion reports to the Project Coordinator.
Candidate Requirements:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in tailoring and embroidery training.
- Strong expertise in both traditional and modern tailoring and embroidery techniques.
- Experience working with women or vulnerable communities (especially refugees) preferred.
- Ability to deliver training in local languages (Dari, Pashto, or Urdu).
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patient, supportive, and culturally sensitive attitude.
Duration: 2 Months
