Position Summary:
The Renewable Energy Expert will be responsible for designing and implementing renewable energy interventions that support the Gilgit-Baltistan Local Area Development Programme. This project aims to enhance ecosystem management, strengthen governance, promote economic instruments, and expand renewable energy access. The expert will work with stakeholders and community members to develop sustainable energy solutions that contribute to environmental, economic, and social development in the region. The Renewable Energy Expert will report to the Project Manager and work closely with other project staff, local communities, and government officials to achieve the project’s objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Renewable Energy Initiatives Implementation:
- Lead the design and implementation of renewable energy solutions, including solar-powered water pumps, hydropower, and wind turbine installations.
- Conduct feasibility studies and field assessments to identify optimal locations and technologies for renewable energy interventions.
- Supervise the installation of renewable energy systems and ensure they meet quality standards and project goals.
- Develop and launch pilot projects to convert biomass into household energy.
Feasibility Studies and Assessments:
- Carry out feasibility studies to evaluate the potential for renewable energy installations within the project area.
- Conduct cost-benefit analyses and environmental impact assessments for proposed renewable energy projects.
- Prepare and present feasibility findings to project stakeholders through workshops and meetings.
Technical Support and Capacity Building:
- Provide technical support and training to project staff, community members, and local technicians on the operation and maintenance of renewable energy systems.
- Organize training sessions for local stakeholders on sustainable energy practices and climate resilient infrastructure.
- Conduct workshops on renewable energy awareness, with a focus on economic and environmental benefits.
Community and Stakeholder Engagement:
- Work closely with local communities to promote the adoption of renewable energy and to ensure community buy-in.
- Organize community sessions to gather feedback, promote awareness, and educate community members on the long term benefits of renewable energy.
- Participate in awareness sessions to build community knowledge on sustainable energy practices as part of broader ecosystem management.
Monitoring and Reporting:
- Regularly monitor the performance of renewable energy interventions to ensure they are meeting the project’s objectives.
- Document and report progress, challenges, and achievements of renewable energy components to the Project Manager.
- Prepare detailed reports for project evaluations, donor presentations, and stakeholder meetings.
Inter-Departmental and Inter-Sectoral Coordination:
- Coordinate with other project team to align renewable energy activities with ecosystem management, governance, and economic initiatives.
- Facilitate inter-sectoral meetings and contribute to the development of integrated strategies that incorporate renewable energy solutions.
- Work with governance experts to align energy initiatives with climate sensitive gender considerations and ensure inclusion.
Sustainability and Economic Incentives:
- Explore and implement economic incentives for communities to adopt and maintain renewable energy solutions.
- Conduct training sessions on energy conservation, sustainable usage, and integration with local value chains to ensure long-term sustainability.
Compliance and Quality Assurance:
- Ensure that all renewable energy initiatives adhere to relevant policies, regulations, and project quality standards.
- Maintain alignment with organization’s branding and communication guidelines in reporting and presentations.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Renewable Energy, Environmental Engineering, Sustainable Development, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
- Experience: At least 4-5 years of experience in renewable energy projects, with a strong focus on solar, wind, and hydropower systems.
- Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of renewable energy systems, design, and implementation.
- Proficiency in energy management software and tools.
- Experience in conducting feasibility studies, cost-benefit analyses, and environmental assessments.
- Project Management Skills:
- Strong project management abilities, including planning, budgeting, and monitoring.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
- Communication and Community Engagement:
- Strong interpersonal skills with experience in community engagement, training, and capacity building.
- Proficient in local languages and understanding of the regional context in Gilgit-Baltistan is an asset.
- Compliance and Reporting:
- Familiarity with regulatory standards, environmental compliance, and organization’s project reporting requirements.
- Strong documentation and reporting skills.
